Hey friends here I come up with a very simple blog on toothpastes. A fresh breath and clean teeth is a nice start to everday and boosts up the confidence to smile and greet everyone. The food never tastes good to the teeth which have not been brushed properly.
But how many of you actually think before buying a toothpaste ,,,most just pick it up by blindly believing the advertisements.
Here's a short information on how to select the toothpastes. There and many types of tooth pastes in the market flouridated toothpastes,de sensitzing tooth pastes, whitening toothpastes, tooth pastes for kids, natural tooth pastes etc.
One should carefully choose amongst these. The toothpaste should carry a IDA(india) and ADA(US) seal of approval . The paste form of tooth pastes are best as compared to gel or powder form. The powder form are more abrasive and may wear off the enamel whereas the gels are too mild to clean the teeth properly.
The paste form has adequate abrasiveness to remove the plaque efficiently.
A fluoridated toothpaste(1000-1500ppm)
has flouride which prevents caries(cavities) more effectively. However the safe limits should be considered as excess of flouride does no good. Caution should be exercised while using these pastes in kids as the kids tend to swallow the pastes. Hence a pea sized amount of kids paste(which has lower levels of fluoride-less than 600ppm ) should be used in kids .The desensitising tooth pastes have components which block the dentinal tubules(the second layer after enamel) and hence reduce sensitivity and may not do any good to normal teeth.
The whitening pastes have peroxides or bicarbonate of soda which cause whitening by mild bleaching of teeth ,however these may cause sensitivity in patients with thin enamel abraded enamel. They just provide mild whitening and professional in office bleaching should be considere for dark stains.
Some pastes claim to have natural plants extracts to clean the teeth, and are herbal in nature.
Some total care toothpastes have all the ingredients to cover up all the above mentioned functions.
SO next time you pick up a toothpaste you should keep in mind what actually you expect to achieve,ie whitening or relief fro sensitivity etc.
